In a tour that started in NYC and continued though Miami, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Kansas City, Piven conducted over 40 workshops! Here are some highlights of that intense and satisfying trip.
A special weekend during the tour was the time at Kidspace Museum in Pasadena, where a small interactive installation was created in which visitors were invited to stick objects (using blue-tak) on shapes that "called for action".

The last event of the 3 weeks tour was a sweet workshop with residents at Village Shalom Living community in Overland Park, Kansas, which was part of Piven's artist residency with the Jewish Federation of Greater Kansas City.

It was great to visit the Palo Alto JCC for the third time. This time we did a family workshop which ended up being all conducted in Hebrew.

"I love the Tinkering Room at The Exploratorium in San Francisco. It is an honor that they seem to somewhat dig me as well, and invited me for a short residence during my time in SF."
We conducted a workshop for the team with some of them attending remotely (here is Karen Wilkinson quick self portrait) and another workshop for the Bay Area Maker Educators. FUN!

This is a lovely image from the BAME (Bay Area Maker Educators) event at the Tinkering Room at The Exploratorium in SF. (big apologies for not recalling the name of the educator in the picture!). There is a deep connection between Piven's work and Making education. "We called that workshop Making Inside"

The first workshop was a family workshop in Brooklyn at the Hannah Senesh school, with a crowd composed mainly of Israeli Brooklynites. This was part of Shishi Israeli hosted by IAC New York.

The time in New York continued with a morning at Westchester Day School invited by the wonderful art teacher Jolanta Goldstein, who did a wonderful job preparing the right setting for all to have a great time creating.

Coexistence project in Israel
Revisiting 2023
This is a project from a year and a half ago but well worth revisiting!
A Jewish Arab coexistence project which we are very proud of having taken part in.
Partnering with Design Terminal Bat Yam we invited 5th graders from schools in Jaffa and from Bat Yam to meet and creat together their identity portraits.
In these difficult times in the Middle East we can only hope for more projects like this one.
Visiting summer camps in the usa

For the first time in many years, I revisited the wonderful American experience of Summer Camp!
I was lucky to visit 2 very different and great camps - Camp Kalsman in Washington State and Camp Ramah Nyack, NY. Free roaming deer in one and electric New York energy in the other.
It was a pleasure to work with the staff of all ages, and of course with the kids as well.

Art reaction to October 7th Attack

We are experiencing a new tragedy in the Middle East.
Since the October 7th attack, alongside my team, we have been visiting survivors and displaced communities around Israel.
In this time of lack of control, being immersed in a creative activity draws out inner power.
In cooperation with NGO Out of the Box
we created a creative kit that was shipped to displaced children throughout Israel.

My new book Dream Big, Laugh Often and More Great Advice From The Bible, created with Shira Hecht-Koller, just got a pre-release starred and wonderful review from Kirkus. The book is published by Farrar Straus and Giroux and is going to be released on March 21st 2023. Together with Shira, we are going to be visiting communities in the USA, conducting readings and workshops.

Workshops (many) promoted by tel aviv city hall education department
September 2022
Tel Aviv City Hall Education Department is supporting and promoting our workshops amongst the city schools as past of a new collaboration pilot with us. We received the great news this past week that 14 elementary schools in Tel Aviv have signed up for workshops with us for students and 7 more for a 4-meetings seminar for their staff. This collaboration has brought 40 new workshops in the city for the current school year. Exciting!
Private commission as memory art piece
August 2022
Ruben Aharoni was a tailor for close to 60 years working from his shop at Ashdod's old commercial center in Israel. Recently both he and his wife Hanna passed away. Their kids asked me to go visit the locked down wonderful tailor shop and pick the materials that I needed to create their portraits as a way to celebrate their parents' lives but also to preserve these tools that carried family memories. It was a lengthy and emotional project for everyone involved. Every material used in this portrait was found in the old shop including flat patterns papers (used for heads and body) and threads used for the wrinkles on the faces.
